CatBox Classic Beach Volleyball Invitational

CatBox Classic Beach Volleyball Pairs Invitational

The Ironwood Ridge Beach Volleyball Program, along with Steve Walker Volleyball Camps, hosts the annual CatBox Classic Beach Volleyball Pairs Invitational. The CatBox Classic is an AIA Sanctioned high School beach volleyball tournament for pairs competition that is held on the sand volleyball courts at the University of Arizona Beach Volleyball Facility in Sunny Tucson, Arizona.

The goal of this tournament is to provide more opportunities for the emerging sport of Beach Volleyball at the high school level, as well as promoting the sport in Southern Arizona for continued growth. In addition, we hope that the CatBox Classic will help provide a blueprint for future invitationals for high school players!

The cost is $75/pair and teams must register with their school. Schools are able to register as many individual pairs teams as they wish. However, the fourth, fifth and beyond teams will be initially placed on a waiting list to allow all schools the opportunity to be represented at the invitational.

Tournament Format and Schedule

The CatBox Classic is a 64-team pairs invitational competition with Pool Play followed by a single-elimination bracket. Each team is expected to play at least four games. The OPEN DIVISION (32 teams) will feature the top 3 pairs from each school; while the SELECT DIVISION (32 teams) will be the 3s, 4s, 5s, and 6s from each school. The CatBox Classic also features "Power Pools" for the top 8 teams in the draw - each team plays each other in pool play for seeding into the Gold Bracket. The Qualifying Pools will place the remaining teams into the Divisional Brackets.

Match format will be single sets to 21 (cap at 25) for pool play; and sets to 21 (no cap) for the bracket play. Each team gets one timeout per game as well as a technical timeout. Final match format will be dependent on the number of teams entered.

The Schedule will be released as soon as the teams and rankings are finalized.

Playing Venue

All competition is scheduled to be held at Bear Down Beach - the University of Arizona’s premier Beach Volleyball facility, home of one of the nation’s Top Ten ranked teams and host of the 2017 PAC-12 Championships last season

The facility features five championship courts which contain 18” deep, beach quality, high-end sand. The courts are conveniently located at the corner of Enke Drive and Campbell Avenue at Jimenez Field and provides the perfect venue for the CatBox Classic players, coaches, and parents.

ALTERNATIVE SITES FOR 2019: Ironwood Ridge High School and/or Canyon del Oro High School. Both Beach Facilities were designed and built using the same plans and layout as the UA courts, along with importing the same quality sand at 18" deep.

Family and friends will need to purchase a wristband for entry to the UA Beach Volleyball Facility. The proceeds from the gate help pay for the facility usage and participant fees that the UA charges.
